Big claim of the day

einstein.jpeggb.png Looks like the Steorn precedent gave birth to an infinite series of claims getting constantly more extraordinary (and unbelievable), starting a new game where the winner is the one telling the bigger bombshell.
This episode’s protagonists are the german physicists Gunter Nimtz and Alfons Stahlhofen, from Koblenz University; and, you know, germans never joke with science (actually Germany has never been a land of fine humourists…).

The aforementioned scientists claim to have broken a key-point in Einstein’s theory of relativity: according to what the man symbol of modern science theorized, making an object travel at a speed faster than the one of light would require an infinite amount of energy; Nimtz and Stahlhofen, on the contrary, have succeeded in propelling energy packets between two prisms instantly.
I’m ignoring the way they conducted the experiment and, even if i knew it, i wouldn’t probably be able to give you details 😛
Actually, as far as i read, there shouldn’t be any paradox in the conducted experiment, due to the fact the particles would have travelled across a “quantum tunnel”. These phenomena, which applications would be simply revolutionary (especially in space travels and so on), are well known in the scientific ambient since the end of ‘800, being already studied by Röntgen after the discovery of X-rays.
Apparently in this case there’s no hoax-risk, sir Einstein and his theories may rest in peace undisturbed.

To jump from one subject to another: i had a chance, recently, to get my hands back on webdesign, testing my works under Linux. Mindful of the absence of a decent ftp client in Gnome (someone should shed some light for me about why on earth an orrid, slow, bugged client like Gftp still survives, and besides that it’s even the official client) i newly ran into Filezilla, simply the top client in windows, of which i had a chance to test the port in Linux while still in an early alpha state. What to say, after months of work by the devs, Filezilla Linux (now at version 3.0.0 rc1) reached almost full maturity, being perfectly tight with the graphical environment and being able to operate with great stability.
